About The Artwork

The Valley, evaluation by Eliza Yacheva. The painting is a depiction of the Cilento landscape. This is a geographical region in the southern part of the Province in Salerno, Italy. The prevailing colours are blue, orange, yellow and cyclamic. It seems as if the blue, as a cold colour, is having a playful battle with all of the other warm colours. Not all of the shapes are outlined, which makes it easier to the eye of the viewer to jump from one position to another and creates a good flow where the transition within the work has been taken in consideration which bolster the ability of perception within the unsteady composition. The upper part of the artwork brings a sense of high heat, enhanced by the little blurriness which skilfully represents the haze of the hot days in Southern Italy. The sun is depicted wittily by the author, painted as a half circle spilled out and melted into a yellow field.

Born 1960 It is a fact that truth cannot be found in appearance, the genetically adapted eye with its restrictions reveals only the particular. Truth, for me, is more likely to be gleaned within the subject; in the form of intuition. My paintings are therefore intuitive diagrams which I then compose into paintings. The rock tombs of St Patrick's, in Heysham, Lancashire, provided a template for my simplified outlines, which are used not only within the pictorial structure but also as potent symbols of being and its temporal constraints. For me, painting has to be as 'authentic' and 'real' as the expanding universe we find ourselves in.
