About The Artwork

The wishing pond, pool of life, whispering shallows, twinkling light. Calm gentle lapping water. Pebbles, rock faces, teaming with life, velvet to the touch. Sounds of tail fins cutting through the surface whilst hungry Koi Carp feed. In the summer of 2007, at my family home where I grew up, (after many years of nagging by my parents) I finally took it upon myself to clear out my old studio. Long since forgotten art equipment and materials were rediscovered and put to good use. The inspiration for the painting came whilst carrying them across the garden pond bridge, as it was teaming with plants, wildlife and Koi Carp. The painting is on hardboard with a handmade softwood frame, made up of several thick layers manipulated into a marble effect. After leaving to dry for approximately three weeks due to the amount of paint used and returning back to the pond for more inspiration, l continued working on the piece. Using metal paint mixed with cellulose thinners, applying the main body of work, then after drying, adding the final details using acrylic and markers, finishing off with two coats of yacht varnish and then making the softwood frame, which has three coats of mahogany stain, finished off with black edged highlights.

Clay in one hand and paintbrush in the other, it’s all about the love of creation, passion and diversity. I was born in Merseyside in the 70's, moving as a baby, with my family to Birmingham, England, where I was raised and still live today. From an early age I’ve had a natural ability to paint, draw, sculpt and upcycle. I am passionate about it and the whole creative process of making the viewer feel, igniting their imagination and creating something that is the best it can possibly be; beautiful detailed works of art.
