ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This painting brings together a formal investigation into color and line, with social issues pertaining to power, history, and the formation of personal and cultural identity in the globalized world. The painting occurs in an intangible no-place: a blank terrain, an abstracted map space that I call The Zone, a metaphoric, tectonic representation of the no man’s land between the Noosphere and the individual. I want to bring The Zone into time and space by connecting it to the five alchemistic elements: earth, water, air, fire, and ether. In the globalized world most people focus on the global and too few focus on the inside. This painting wants to invite people to internalize their experiences and mapping them by reflecting about the tension field that exists between our observations, our perception, our environment, and our actions.
