About The Artwork

I've collected years of archival found images. I am fascinated by the ability the found image has to become universal. About two decades ago I started exploring what a painting of me would look next to one of my siblings at the same age. While the originals would differ 8-20 years, by painting them in the same style, they made those older and younger than me, the same age. My paintings do that. They transport me to places and times where and when i know I have not been, yet feel familiar and personal. This image, part of a Colombian historic archive, depicts a prom scene dated around the time I was born.
