About The Artwork
This is War is a nocturne composed during the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Thematically, it brings together elements of human ingenuity representing the achievements of culture dedicated to nurturing life as well as destroying it. The grand architectural structure in the background represents an achievement of culture whose function is to literally give room to man at rest. The armored tank in the foreground represents technological development at the service of man's destructive impulses. The night setting brings into relief the beauty of the architecture as well as the bleakness of war. The piece is A4 in size, and has been painted with artist grade pigments that are light fast on paper that is 25% cotton, 300GSM, and acid free.

As an artist I'm interested in classical style as well as modern technique. Specifically, I'm interested in using the visual idioms of classical style, with their emphasis on accuracy, perspective, and proportionality, in the service of creating representational art that conveys more than a photograph can. While I work with pastels, pencils, and acrylics too, I am partial to watercolours.
