About The Artwork

This deckled edge artwork is 13x17 and is float mounted in a 16x20 black frame. Float mounting “floats” the artwork on a foam board lift, which is then mounted onto a mat backing. The height of the lift creates the floating effect by raising the artwork off the mat backing. I use squeegees in most of my work patterned on the type German painter Gerhard Richter uses. They allow me to create random shapes and features within my work. They also create a lot of texture which is another feature of my work. Working on paper is somewhat challenging verses working on canvas because of how the paper absorbs the acrylic paint differently. I challenge viewers to think and feel outside the box when looking at my work. The title I choose for each painting is just a suggestion or a feeling I have during or after I'm done with each one. As in 'beauty' the enjoyment of my work should be 'in the eye of the beholder'.

I was born in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1949. Lived most of my life in the San Francisco East Bay Area(Alamo/Danville). I moved to Southern California in 2001 and then Santa Barbara in 2018, I've been painting since 2010 when I discovered a Sam Francis painting at a gallery. It inspired me to try my hand at abstract painting. I was excited by the colors he used and the way he applied the acrylic paint.
