ABOUT THE ARTWORK

On these drawings I have experimented with ink and acrylic paint applied to the texture and roughness of the paper. Patches, prints, lines and traces of great expression and premeditated inaccuracy. They leave room for what is indeterminate and aim to create an undefined space, which invites the observer to lose him or herself in contemplating and discovering something else, something not seen in the first place. These are not drawings that put into question what is visible or try to get an idea through. They are drawings that deal with thought, drawings of memory, which try to recover memories to obtain an image and transfer it onto paper. Many of these memories and obsessions are a result of intense contact with landscape, but beyond that fact, all relationship of intimacy with nature disappears in the drawings. Only the memory of a gaze seduced by the rhythms and natural forms survives. A memory that deep down never let itself be fully captured.

Born in 1975 in Ceuta, Spain. His work is tied to the idea of nature and culture as the result of human activity. His paintings and drawings avoid to directly representing nature. It's more about insinuating a form or evoking a space or a landscape and showing a process in which all the decisions that are taken are submitted to the things perceived of the natural world. Work usually starts with thin layers of ink or graphite before more layers of paint are applied to the paper or canvas. Then the painting grows in many stages where it is corrected through different extractions and superimpositions. Many of the paintings don't have a title. This frees the observer and allows him to perform an exercice with his eyes, forces him to look, to form his own vision and build a landscape, which in each case will depend on his own cultural bagage.
