About The Artwork

I've taken the opportunity to do something that I have not done for a long time during this lock down period which is to work from memory and the imagination. This is because I can not do what I usually do and go out into the community to do my research. I've even resisted the temptation to use the internet to search for pictures to refer to. I really wanted to just access what was in my mind. I started working in sketchbooks, painting whatever came to mind. From this I selected what I found most interesting and made this painting. From my point of view its about a person staring up at the cosmos wondering what its all about. The crow on the tree is symbolic. Crows are symbolic of different things to different cultures and I am interested in the connection with Mystery and Personal Transformation. I started painting it just after the start of the lock down when life was very tense and anxious and no one knew what was going to happen.

Adam is an Art practitioner specialising in painting, based near Tynemouth in the north east of England. The work is figurative, but with an eye for the abstract. Colour, shape, and mark making play their role in imagery that strives towards an other worldliness/ surreal environment. Adam's work includes portraits from 1980's cult film in the form of nostalgic Pop Art and local North Eastern scenes spliced with narrative from the works of Franz Kafka. Other scenes or "happenings", show homage to American Artist Edward Hopper. Earlier work concerns life experiences from travelling abroad including images taken from trips to Germany and various locations in Asia. Adam's paintings refer to his interests including images taken from film, narrative from stories, people he knows or who has met and places that he has been to and has lived in. Adam was born and grew up near Tynemouth where he continues to live and work.
