About The Artwork

Please note: This painting is available for purchase, but is currently on loan to the art loan program at the DeCordova Museum in Lincoln, MA and may take several months to retrieve from the program. Please get in touch by reaching out to the people at Saatchi to get details. Thank you for looking! This is a painting in acrylic and a couple kinds of marker on canvas. It is a triptych, meaning it is on three separate panels, like three different paintings that are meant to hang next to each other, but they are all part of the same unified artwork. This painting has a lot going on. The background is mostly done in high flow acrylic paint applied to raw canvas that was prepared by soaking it in water, such that the paint is readily absorbed into the fibers of the canvas, creating a gradient effect which is quite delicate. On top of this there are some doodles in sharpie marker and paint marker, which are obscured by successive layers of poured and smeared acrylic paint. The overall effect of the foreground layers is to suggest a series of waves, running from left to right. A layer of light colored wave in the middle ground seems to have crashed and is receding, and a layer of dark colored waves in the foreground is racing from left to right. This painting will ship as three stretched canvas panels. I suggest hanging them with even centerlines (the upper edge of the side panels should be two inches below the upper edge of the center panel) and with two inches between the panels. There are hanging wires installed on each panel. Please let me know if you have any questions or comments. I can be reached at blake@blakebrasher.org
