About The Artwork
Velvet undergrowth are a pair of nature inspired original abstract paintings. Two large canvas are covered in crack effect clay and then layered up with acrylic paints in beautiful rich blue and green tones to create these soft textured artworks. The pair were painted for an exhibition space in Soho Square which incorporated elements of the rooms colours. I love using blue and greens in my abstract paintings, I am drawn to nature and I am inspired by the colours in water and trees. The overall dark tone of these paintings with the soft brushstrokes, merging of blue and green tones and then the cracked surface led me to name these canvas Velvet Undergrowth. The cracked clay exposes the layers of colour on the canvas underneath.
