About The Artwork

This is an original painting of the landscape of Tskhaltubo as I was seeing it from my window. In July of 2015 my wife and I went to Tskhaltubo for a week of spa and plein air vacation. Tskhaltubo is a small resort town in Western Georgia, that is know for its spas and natural mineral water springs. That week turned to be the hottest week of the summer that year. In the morning we were going to the spa for some massage and treatments, but the whole afternoon we spent in our room under the air conditioner. So I couldn't go for the plein air as I had planned, but instead was painting what I could see from the window and made some portraits of my wife. I hope that the viewer would feel the atmosphere of summer leisure and calmness. Painted on cardboard, the picture needs to be framed in order to hang. It is signed on the front with my initials in Georgian "Z" "Sh" (ზ.შ.). Thank you for your interest in my work!

Hello! Thank you for looking at my art and reading about me! My name is Zurab Sharvadze. I was born (in 1959) and raised in Tbilisi, Georgia and since my early childhood, I have always had a passion for art. My stepmother was the first one to notice it and gave me an easel and a set of oil paints when I was 14. Since then, my easel and I became inseparable. Following my father’s steps, I got my BS, MS and PhD in Nuclear Physics and worked at the Physics Research Institute until the collapse of the Soviet Union. Since the beginning of the 90s, I became the full-time artist. It was also the time of apprenticeship with some famous Georgian Artists like Temo Machavariani. The beautiful landscapes of my country Georgia are the constant source of my inspiration: Caucasus mountains, valleys with vineyards, meadows full of alpine flowers, pine forests, clear lakes and springs, the Black Sea. I also always take my portable easel and set of oil paints, when I travel abroad. From early spring through late autumn, you can often find me painting outside in the plein air in the mountains or the windy narrow streets of old Tbilisi. During the winter months is mostly studio work of still lives and portraits. The great artists that inspire me the most are Van Gogh, Cezanne, Gauguin, Degas, Mondrian. I participated in numerous Georgian and International Exhibitions. My works have been purchased by art collectors worldwide and can be found in the private collections in Great Britain, USA, Israel, Germany, France, Spain, and elsewhere. My paintings are all original and one-of-a-kind. All my canvases are built up with many layers of oil paints infused with flicks, drips and brushstrokes of paint resulting in a three-dimensional surface.
