This ship, called Friendship, is moored at Salem Harbor in Massachusetts USA. There are records of voyages between Eurasia and Massachusetts from 1787 to 1812. I imagined that voyage and painted it.

"I was born and raised in a small town in South Korea. This is a place surrounded by mountains and rivers, and it is a place where I have accumulated beautiful memories since I was young, seeing and feeling the beauty and abundance of nature. Rich experiences and emotional connections with nature have played a positive role in my senses. In the Eastern cultural background of the time, women were restricted in expressing their emotions and actions and were not free. The canvas is a place where I can escape from these pressures, make my existence known, and pour out the emotions I want to express to others, and the activity of paintng has become a means of finding myself. I chose the Alla Prima technique using oil, which is a way to express these emotions freely and immediately without missing a single moment. My painting method is to create dozens of colors in advance on a large palette and then continue to fill in the empty space on the canvas one stroke at a time rather than multiple layers. This broken color technique maintains texture and intense color." Nova Hill was born and raised in South Korea, where she was a stenography instructor and taught academic English to middle and high school students. After immigrating to the United States in 2007, she lived in Brookline, MA and has been living in Stoneham, MA since 2014. Her interest in art began in early childhood. Her first art award was at an art contest on the theme of the Korean War in elementary school, and in high school, her works were selected and displayed in an art contest every year. From young age painting was her passion and an integral part of her daily life, but she majored in English and Education for a steady income for real life. Although her educational and career background is different from art, she has been immersed in experimenting with different styles and painting techniques. After using the oil, she was fascinated by the techniques of Impasto and Alla Prima, learning not only how to see and feel nature as defined by the Impressionists of the past, but also to understand and express colors differently. She focuses on color, texture, and symbolic simplicity in feeling the inner world of nature and expressing emotions through painting. In her work with oil, she expresses freely and uses rich and bold colors.
