Part of a series called "Deep Waters" exploring my relationship to travel, migration, colonization, invasive species, and religion. This painting depicts a comparison of emotional landscapes tied to each place I lived as a child: Kaua'i, Hawai'i, and Las Vegas, Nevada. I hope viewers will feel a sense of distance, blockage, and adaptivity when they look at this. I hope they think about their relationships to the same things I thought about in my painting processes. I chose the medium and subject matter for a project tied to the notion of "place" and its meaning in my life.
