About The Artwork
I painted Walker after a particularly enjoyable walk on a warm day around the countryside of Aberystwyth, Wales. The warm colours represent not just the heat but the joy that I felt as I reached the top of each hill. The aim of the painting is to capture the feelings of euphoria that I felt as I enjoyed being immersed in nature. I hope that viewers will be prompted to remember similar times that they have enjoyed being in the natural world. The shapes in the paintings are taken from an aerial photograph of the surrounding Welsh fields. Also the vertical scratched line, in the bottom centre, of the painting represents one particularly steep path that wiggles up the side of the large, deep purple hillside. Walker is painted in high quality acrylic paints and is painted on high quality canvas.

I am currently living in Aberystwyth, Wales and working on an MA in painting whilst holding down various jobs. My paintings are based on memories of being immersed in landscape. Rather than trying to replicate a setting, I aim to convey some of the joy of being in a landscape and the euphoria or rush of someone enjoying and revelling in nature. My pursuit of outdoor activities, such as wild swimming, also influences my painting as most of my landscapes are based on my experiences around the west coast of Wales. Joy, which is stimulated by a beautiful environment, is particularly demonstrated through my use of colour.
