Elke's garden gives her so much inspiration that she must paint. She is in love with the more than one hundred year old plane trees in the backyard that have become true sparrows. The sun, the light, the structures, the wind, the sound, the seasons, the weather and, of course, the colors create an unprecedented variety of possibilities. Using the freedom of the creative process to capture moments of happiness or impressions of it with everything she has within her drives her to create her expressive work. Her work is often referred to as "mixed media" because she uses so many different types of paint (acrylic, oil and spray paint) that she layers over one another. In this way she subtly creates depth in the work. Especially with the large canvases this gives an enormous spatial effect; the feeling that you can step through the painting into her garden and briefly visit Elke.
