About The Artwork
This work was created and inspired by a deep fear of the ocean. Not your everyday marine terrors like the men in the gray suits, but of the creatures that lurk in the dark, both terrible and beautiful, tiny and gigantic. It is also about the power of creation and destruction, and all the forms that it imbues and the questions that it asks. The addition of the chiffon fabric on the base level of the painting beneath the gesso layer was chosen because of the organic shape and texture of the material. It gives a living depth to the lower part of the work. This canvas was hand-stretched and mounted on its frame by the artist.
