About The Artwork
I wanted the challenge of creating some small works when I created this. This is the companion piece to "Where do dreams go when we are gone?" and "ENOUGH!". https://www.instagram.com/p/CMdt4G-lWGt/ https://www.instagram.com/p/CVHK0NDMP9m/ I was playing around with a very bright yellow that I added a lot of paint medium to. The mixture ended up creating a ghostly image once it soaked into the clothing. The wood to build the stretcher and the fabric scraps are all leftovers from previous works. I love leftovers. Large pieces are wonderful sometimes by just their scale. Smaller pieces pose their own difficulties. I am not saying that large pieces aren't difficult but as an instructor I once told me, "Smaller works have to be like gems." Can you find my old minivan key or the underwear tag?

Greg Hausler was born in New York but raised in Kansas where he graduated from Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting. During his time at college, he developed his signature technique of using articles of clothing and other textiles instead of linen canvas for his mixed-media abstract paintings. His non-traditional use of painting media is influenced by Marcel Duchamp and street artists while his painting technique draws inspiration from Jackson Pollock and Claude Monet resulting in a style of work that is uniquely his own.
