This piece is a slightly larger size than most of my Hockney inspired chair pieces, painted on a 20x16 inch cradled board, it allowed space for additional detail in the composition. The painting features a lovely, detailed rattan chair with a matching foot rest that was super fun to paint because of the layers of negative space. The chair is centered within a room filled with delightful leafy plants, like its own wee jungle. A large delicious monster plant sprouts joyfully out of a blue and white striped pot on one side while several other plants have their own wee party on the other side. The wall is a very soft, pale pink and there is a collection of delft plates in classic blue and white in the background. The plates are brought into the composition in a lovely comfortable manner by the blue and white rose patterned rug on the floor. The cushion on the seat of the chair is covered with a deep indigo floral, covered in a happy spray of birds of paradise with their bright, contrasting orange and red. There are visible brush strokes, lovely scratchy crayon lines and all manner of fun character adding elements within this piece and it ships in a wee box, reading to be framed by its eventual owner or simply hung as is.

Lara Meintjes, also known as Agnes, is a South African artist, happily living in Oakland, California. She is particularly interested in arrangements of color, and the effects of each color's presence on the others within a composition. She also really likes flowers and awkward ceramic objects. Lara is fascinated by the dividing line between fact and fantasy, and the lingering imprint of childhood on our adult lives. She likes to play in the negative space between objects.
