About The Artwork

I live in northeast Georgia which has become dense with wineries. Fertile soil and cool temperatures contribute to plump grapes that hang on multiple vines all over our area. I have featured many local wineries in my paintings and in this painting, I feature the raw material that makes the wine possible, the grapevine. I make wine myself and there is nothing more beautiful to a winemaker than a vine sagging with plump healthy bunches of grapes. I believe viewers will feel like plucking a grape from this vine. But we need each and every one to make the great wine produced in this area. Watercolors are very difficult to paint. They are transparent, there is no white paint and mistakes are either difficult to remove or completely impossible. So, every watercolor I paint is a challenge. But the risk is worth the result I got by using it on this subject.

My name is Oscar Rayneri and I was born in Havana, Cuba. I came with my family to the U.S. in 1956. I was proud to become a citizen on the unfortunate date of November 22, 1963, the day that President Kennedy was assassinated. I started drawing when I was very young and began a detective strip when I was nine. I still have every page of it. After graduating from college, I began painting in oils and when I started doing outdoor shows, I switched to the hardest medium of all, watercolors. I have been painting in watercolors ever since.
