Winter in Bulgaria is short-lived; you have to catch the moment when snow falls and lasts at least a couple of days. But these days will be remembered for a long time. The wind is driving the drifting snow, the sky is gloomy and blue-gray, the lying snow captivates with its hospital whiteness. It seems as if all of nature has caught a cold and is fighting some deadly virus. The Balkan Mountains are getting very dark, despite the snow that has fallen. We have to look for what colors to convey this blackness. Ultramarine is not enough here; it has to coexist with dark indigo and fight for existence with sky blue, which clearly dominates the promising haze. And evergreen thickets add grassy greenery to the extremely cold range of the mountains. You get the feeling of this universal cold that comes straight from the heavens - just as cold and ultramarine. All creations of human hands (houses, fences and towers) are also covered with snow and reduced to a cold blue hue. Only the winter shoots are alive, joyfully breaking through the whiteness of the snow with their joyful greenery. It is adjacent to ocher soil, which also does not tolerate too much snowy whiteness. So they balance in large masses: a gray-blue sky, dark ultramarine mountains and a flat white field, pockmarked with greenery, symbolizing the short duration of the harsh blue cold. This is the Central Balkan in winter. The painting was made on cold pressed watercolor paper 240 g 35x50 cm, watercolor paints produced in St. Petersburg. Without frame. Requires a frame with natural glass.
