About The Artwork

What would the San and Koi people of history have said if they had known what the colonialists would do to them in years to come. This juxtaposition of a San woman scratching ground nuts out of the ash with an image of the first San rock art drawings of European woman reminds the observer how rich African culture was at the time, compared to the stifled repressive treatment of women in Europe. The latter arriving in Africa to convert and subvert the poor savage who needed neither saving nor subjection.
