About The Artwork
I've always loved ravens, spent a lot of time on my local trails, listening to them calling to one another in the treetops – and I had an image of a raven in a suit stuck in my head for years. I brought together several photos to create a composite image, then sliced it into pieces, creating a visual rhythm. The organic paper elements and ornaments in gold and copper contrast with the more geometric composition while also recalling religious icons. Heavily influenced, I suspect, by Nick Bantock, Grant Leier and Gustav Klimt. The piece is finished with a coat of clear resin.

I grew up in a family of artists, so I really had no choice in the matter. Drawn to surrealism at an early age, and later inspired by Nick Bantock, Grant Leier, Tim Walker and Ellen Kooi, my work has often strayed into the world of the imaginary. I will often create my images from multiple pieces; photo-realistic assemblages of parts that make up the whole I see in my mind’s eye – rather than what I see in the camera’s viewfinder. Many of these composites then become the basis for paintings, often layered with additional media such as inks, acrylic, handmade papers, and found ephemera. My work is held in private collections throughout North America, the U.K. and Japan.
