This is an ongoing series of work that I've been since 2016. In this series I experiment with shapes, compositions and rhythms. I use this experience to make bigger work. The pieces I create are dedicated to self-exploration of my personality and various states of mind. I always had a passion to share, but at the same time I was afraid of my own thoughts and the intimacy that they imply. My trip to Hong Kong to a huge extent became a starting point for the art I do today. There I visited an exhibition of ceramics being totally fascinated not with the plates but with the red stamps on the other side. This experience made me try to combine Russian letters with the asian aesthetics what resulted in well-balanced square typeface which after almost 4 years evolved into something I do now. I created this typeface where I encrypt my flow of thoughts that I have during the process of making a work. I write complete sentences avoiding any spacings and punctuation marks. At first glance my art looks like a canvas with an abstract pattern, but if you spend enough time looking you will decode the system of my writing so finally you will be able to read it. When you deal with my artworks it might seem like meeting a new person. You need to invest your time to get to know it better.

Anatoly K. Shabalin is a Russian-born artist based in London. He hails from Izhevsk, a small rural city and studied in the Lyceum of Arts and Aesthetics no.98, where he developed an interest in graphic design. This led to his enrollment in Central Saint Martins, London. Where he's been able to move between the lines of design and art, something which is not common from where he is from. It is perhaps the unassuming environment in which he grew up in that fueled his immense fascination with the world at large. In order to record and express these feelings of wonderment, Anatoly incorporates writing into his work. Despite being written in his vernacular (Russian), the physical form of his characters are strongly influenced by the various cultures he came across during his travels. He carries this form of expression across several mediums, ranging from canvases to guitars and skateboard decks. This places his art as a reflection of the artist; in a never-ending state of self discovery, wonderment and meditation.
