About The Artwork

Subtle Objects No.9 Limited Edition of 10+2AP. Archival pigment print on Hahnemühle Photo Rag Bright White - museum grade archival fine art cotton paper. 40 x 60 cm with 5 cm border. Ships in a Tube. Rock. Hands. Holding on. Mind. Materializing... Subtle Objects is a photographic series currently in the making. An invitation into poetic and mythical modes of experiencing... Influenced by ‘primitive art’, surrealism, mythological thinking, literature on transpersonal psychology and psychedelic research among others, the images are made in the studio, by staging objects in communication with human form on the backdrops pointing into in/de/finite spaces beyond. The objects are allowed to assume roles of body parts, masks, ritual objects, alternate characters, imaginary entities... They are becoming manifestations and ‘materializations’ of the psyche, and in this process their own materiality becomes ambiguous. Their sensuality and corporeality are juxtaposed with their symbolic function to evoke archetypal images, weaving an open field of potentiality of intuitive insight and shared meaning through poetry and myth, while acutely being aware of elusiveness of reality and mystery of being.

Glimpses of the elusive. What is really fascinating is how we are ‘creating’ reality through experiencing, how our subjective and singular from moment to moment arising experiences ‘intersect’ in shared realities and in visual arts, how the seen can mediate a glimpse into what cannot be seen. Daniel Pazdur is an artist of Slovak origin living in Mauritius. Born in 1978, he studied aesthetics /history and philosophy of art/ at Comenius University, Bratislava. He is self taught in photography, which is his primary medium of expression. He also creates short videos, collages, paints his backdrops, and interacts with found objects mostly borrowed from nature. While in the very beginning he was concerned mainly with documentary photography, his interest gradually shifted into imaginative, abstract and conceptual. His world and work is inspired and informed mainly by ‘primitive art’, mythological world views and thinking, surrealism, literature on transpersonal psychology and psychedelic research, abstract expressionism, color field painting, light art... He is drawing on his own experiences of sensory deprivation, ganzfeld effect, darkness and silent meditation, yoga and study of non dual teachings.
