Antique board and french cutlery - Limited Edition of 20 Print

This is an image with plenty of layers: of history, culture and aesthetic sensibility. The cutlery in itself will have had a long and chequered history, meandering through its different owners and serving them through the decades of their time in France until ending up in the "Puces de la Porte de Vanves" flea market in Paris with all its beautiful old french wares and antiques. The legendary food stylist, Mary Harris found them there and brought them back for shoots here in Australia, so we recently decided to make them immortal in an image. The chopping board also has a serious presence with all its extra metal strengthening plates adding some beautiful colour, texture and interest, an auction find by the same stylist. The next layer down is the metal base we used for the background, another piece with some rich provenance, starting its life in 3 dimensions as a metal barrel on a farm in the central west of NSW near Parkes before being flattened by the prop house into a handy rectangular metal textured surface ideal for shots like this. It was lit with a large softened window light and finished with some careful post processing and colour grading to bring out the cutlery handles' ornate details and overall subtle colour palate.
