About The Artwork

I sojourned in Berlin for over a month, a city that had long captured my curiosity and significantly shaped my artistic exploration. The purpose was to produce a work in response to my influences, primarily derived from the works of German artists in music, literature, and cinema. My visit preceded Berlin's meteoric rise as a fashionable destination, allowing me the privilege of witnessing its preservation of identity, melancholic allure, and an enduring industrial post-war atmosphere that resonated with a potent socialist political history—a defining characteristic of the city. This sojourn took place in the wintry early weeks of November, intensifying the pervasive sense of melancholy that I had anticipated. The featured photograph is part of a series captured entirely in 35mm color photography, serving as a homage to the industrial German band 'Einstürzende Neubauten,' specifically inspired by their album 'Silence is Sexy' and the famous movie 'Der Himmel über Berlin' from which the title is derived. This piece was shot from the window of the room I was staying in, reflecting my perception of the city as a gloomy place where buildings and cranes ascend endlessly into the sky. Construction sites were ubiquitous, and the atmosphere was both dramatic and poetic. It conveyed a hidden struggle between the soul of the place, its culture, and its identity against the inevitable invasion of the new era. The strong 'resistance' of East Berlin to remain as it used to be was palpable, and without much planning, I ended up reflecting on this in my work. The resultant body of work encapsulates Berlin's romantic yet dilapidated ambience—poetic yet gloomy. Even thou this is not strictly about politic, I reckon to be a political work thought the topic of Landscape.

Italian artist based currently in London. Her artistic practice investigates and questions the persuasive power of the image and of the visual language. Her body of work incorporates intimate yet universal experiences such as loneliness, abandonment, fear for emotional nakedness and failure. In touching on these topics, she aims to create a collision between opposite languages: the unreal and the imaginary, the document and the oneiric, the personal memory and the collective, aiming to trigger reactions by invoking primal and visceral emotions. She employs the photographic medium to create visual access to the many different readings of existence. Her work often addresses elements of sexuality, mysticism, body language and nature, to create a tense narrative that provokes and relives at the same time.
