About The Artwork

This is a colorized version of an old photograph of Ava Gardner as Pauline Ostrovsky and Gregory Peck as Fedja in The Great sinner 1949. which is based on the famous novel The Gambler from 1866.by Fyodor Dostoyevsky. Directed by Robert Siodmak in Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer production. Ava Gardner was a beautiful Hollywood actress known for her fatal female roles, her wild life outside of film and her marriages to Frank Sinatra, Artie Shaw and Mickey Rooney. She has made many famous films, and her private life has been just as exciting and dramatic as in her films. She was an actress of exceptional beauty and charm that men could not resist. Some of her most famous films were: Snows from Kilimanjaro, Mogambo, Iguana Night, Crossing Cassandra, East Side, West Side, Naked Maya, etc. The American Film Institute declared her one of the greatest actresses of the last century, and during her turbulent life, the scandals that followed her attracted the attention of the public, if not more, than her role on the big screen. She was born Ava Lavinia Gardner on December 24, 1922 in Grabtown, North Carolina, USA, and died on January 25, 1990 (at the age of 67) in Westminster, London, England. Gregory Peck, a famous movie star, was a tall, imposing American actor with a deep, gentle voice, best known for conveying characters of honesty and integrity. He achieved many great film roles and had a long and very successful film career. Peck was one of the most enduring Hollywood stars of all time, with a career that lasted almost 60 years, from the 1940s to 2000. Some of his famous films are: Moby Dick, Duel in the Sun, The Snows of Kilimanjaro, Mirage, The Big Country, Boys from Brazil, etc. Gregory Peck, who was considered a fine Hollywood guy, is best known for his film roles that are bigger than life, especially as Atticus Finch in the Oscar-winning film Kill the Mockingbird. He was born on April 5, 1916 in La Jolla [now San Diego], California, USA, and died on June 12, 2003 (age 87) in Los Angeles, California, USA. From the collection Colorized old black and white photographs.
