"Boxed" Print

Melissa Vogley Woods (b. 1968) earned a BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute, and an MFA from the Ohio State University. Taking experimental paths towards painting, her work claims many mediums but across them all, her work is fundamentally rooted in painting. Her paintings, sculptures and videos explore themes of sexuality, power within art history. Abstraction, landscape and still life are formulas that she flexes between visually and in the videos performatively. Her subject matter begins as a study of lost histories and actions that are translated into in the form of stacked quilts, femme stereotypes and the folds of the body. Recently, she has attended the Greater Columbus Arts Council International Artist Residency and has received two Ohio Arts Council Individual Excellence Award has received numerous grants from Franklin County Neighborhood Arts Program for her community based work projects.
