About The Artwork

The St. Charles Avenue streetcar line, is the oldest continuously operating street railway system in the world. Streetcars have been an iconic feature in New Orleans since 1831. The streetcar in this photo was built in the early 1920 and is one of 35 still in service. Riding the Saint Charles line is like time travel, the clatter of the tracks and ringing bell is the best of nostalgia. Riding on a warm summer night with the windows open (no air conditioning here!) the smells of the steamy garden district mix with the old wooden seats. Slats worn smooth by the hundred years of service. This is an older photograph that I captured while vacationing. It feels older than it is, transporting the viewer into whatever era of Big Easy history they desire. Or a Streetcar named Desire, (see what I did there?:-)

Thomas Schneider was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, spent most of his adult life in northern Michigan, and now resides in New Orleans, Louisiana. His 45-year history with photographic art led him to explore many styles and techniques, producing a unique collection of images. Many of these pieces are now being offered to collectors for the first time. Moving to New Orleans in 2013, he works and socializes with many talented artists in various mediums. His emersion in this community has inspired new work and focus on his primary passion, abstracts. Finding aesthetically pleasing representations of the interplay of objects, color, and light, where that interplay is the "subject" rather than any individual element. That challenge continually pushes him to seek the places where that interplay hides in plain sight. website: https://www.thomasschneiderphotography.com/
