A longtime friend, whenever he swings back through Italy, makes it a point to swing by and break bread with me. We catch up every couple of years or so, and each time, he's got some fascinating tale to spin. Living off the fat of the land for ages now, having lost his folks early on, who, during their brief stint on this mortal coil, managed to amass quite the nest egg. Last time we crossed paths, he regaled me with a tale of spending about a month holed up in a shack, deep in the heart of a sunflower field in Romania. His theory? By constantly immersing himself in the sight of these plants, something was bound to give sooner or later. And give it did. After about a week, he found himself perpetually dreaming of vast expanses of sunflowers. But not your run-of-the-mill blooms, mind you. No, these petals were a striking shade of blue. Knowing I'd snapped some shots in a sunflower field some time back, he implored me to tweak the hue to match his dreams. I obliged, and in this snap, along with others from the same series, you can behold the result. I gifted my friend a large-scale print, which, he claims, now hangs right above his bed. Perhaps he seeks to keep dreaming of those blue sunflowers, even during those rare moments of repose in his own abode.

"In the lens's gaze, the eternal moment, ensnaring the fleeting essence of time" *** I enjoy shooting both instinctively and with careful planning. It depends on the day and the inspiration provided by the location or subject. In the photos I capture, I strive to convey the emotions drawn from literature and cinema, arts that have always deeply moved me. So, to the best of my abilities, I seek inspiration from Faulkner, Kubrick, Murakami, Wenders, Lansdale, Kaurismaki, Watson, Fellini, and many, many others. Of course, I am grateful to all, naturally! I've been involved in photography for many years, although it's not my primary occupation. Whenever I can, I take photos, both in Italy and abroad. I love capturing the beach and everything it offers. I'm also drawn to the allure of the American Southwest and the Far East. When I don't feel like traveling, or don't have the time, I enjoy creating photos in the studio. My first camera was a Pentax. I carried it with me in the early '90s to capture images of the Big Apple. Slowly, over the years, I transitioned to digital: being able to see the result of the shot immediately is no small thing. I chose a Sony camera because I also love shooting videos, and I thought it was the right device. It was very fun and intriguing to shoot videos for some small music groups, but over time I discovered that my preference lies in a visual art that doesn't interact with the subject. For this reason, my interest shifted towards nature documentaries, but even more towards the world of photography. redrumstudio@hotmail.it
