About The Artwork

This photo was taken one beautiful may day when I visited the Koporin monastery in Serbia. Among many other things worth photographing in this place, I also liked this scene. Everything here is beautifully arranged thanks to the diligent hands of the nuns. This is the entrance to one of the many accompanying buildings of the Koporin monastery viewed from the side. In Sumadija, in the heart of Serbia, on the edge of Velika Plana near the border with Smederevski Palanka, there is the Koporin Monastery with the Church of St. Stephen, an Orthodox monastery belonging to the Diocese of Braničevo's Serbian Orthodox Church. The Koporin Monastery was built by Despot Stefan Lazarevic, son of Prince Lazar, as a sign of gratitude to God for leaving him alive in the battle of Angora in 1402, as well as the return of his sister Olivera, a "pledge of peace" and handed over to the Turkish Sultan after the Battle of Kosovo. It is assumed that the main church in the old Serbian style was built in 1415. From the mid-fifties, more precisely in 1958, Koporin became a nunnery, after which it experienced its renaissance. Thanks to the efforts of nuns, but also a large number of believers and church dignitaries, the monastery received numerous accompanying contents, such as lodgings for nuns, lodgings for visitors, dining rooms, and many others, which today make up the monastery complex. Within the complex, there is a chapel dedicated to the Birth of the Most Holy Mother of God. The monastery itself is surrounded by a forest and of course, by a high wall as well and all the buildings in it, are surrounded by trees and greenery. In the immediate vicinity of the walls of the monastery complex is a source of healing water. There is also a belief that this water helps people who cannot have children. The nuns testify that there are countless couples who sent letters of thanks or came to thank, along with their descendants, who were born after prayers in this monastery. A large number of believers and tourists visit this monastery throughout the year, and if you ever come to this part of Serbia, be sure to visit it. In spring in Sumadija, Central Serbia. From the Churches and Monasteries collection.
