About The Artwork

The work is based on an 19th cent. graphic found in a vacation house in the mountains. I replaced the figure of a woman, probably an aristocrat, with a hominid gazing for the last time at Arcadia, a happy land without people that existed before the advent of man. I scoop the title of the work of Nicolas Poussin, depicting shepherds in the land of eternal happiness.

I always work with the place where my work activity is anchored. It is the space itself that echoes the subject and gives a fertile ground for creation. Found materials such as web data, objects, sounds, written sentences or video recordings play a major role in the process of defining the physical shape of the subject – nevertheless they don’t necessarily have to be included in the final work. In my art practice things often become transmutations of themselves and serve a different meaning by provoking certain associations of geopolitical or scientific character. The relation of things (rather than objects) to space form in my opinion a living network of interconnected actors who are in a constant move and thus define the shape of the world we live in. Aesthetics, politics and mass media mix with dumped furniture, excess web data and diseases to become a language of thought of the New. My strategy implies an endless reformulating of things in space – a final structure is impossible because of the innumerable mutations that occur in a gathering like the so called 'art work'. I treat my pieces more like renderings of a state in a given time rather than something final.
