About The Artwork

Little is know of false killerwhales. They were first discovered by their fossils in 1843, and were assumed to be extinct. In fact, the species wasn’t discovered alive until fifteen years after the discovery of their fossils. When we encountered this pod, the captain did not allow us to enter the water. They are known for slightly aggressive behavior and are often in the company of sharks. However I just had to experience these magnificant creatures in their own habitat, so I grabbed my dive mask plus camera and asked my friend to hold me by my ankles while I dipped my upperbody from the boat into the water.

My aim is to show you the beauty of this world. We all know the jungles and mountains, but there is an entire, virtually unexplored world that is even more enthralling. All photos are made with natural light, no strobes. After-dive processing occured in most cases to enhance the contrast / colour. About me: Born and raised in the Netherlands during the mid '80-ies. As a young boy I became fascinated by the Jacques Cousteau's documentaries. When I was 20 I started a job at a dive shop in Cyprus and took serveral dive courses. A year later I got the opportunity to go to the Caribean for an internship and developed the feasibility plan for a tourist submersible attraction that allows passengers to dive down to 1000 ft. In the meanwhile I continued diving and was trained in underwaterphotography and took up a job as a dive master and later dive instructor. Since than I have gone back to my home country, but never stopped traveling, nor taking pictures of sealife. My goal is to show how beautiful the sea is.
