About The Artwork
hainhofer’s hollandia is both collage and photograph expanding on the theme of spring-coming, fertility, and surrender. Through the use of a menagerie of often noble symbols from Hainhofer's Stammbuch (a 227 page volume of Europe’s most notable families), this work of art merges the modern and simple dutch countryside with drawings celebrating medieval royalty and abundance. Through a comical lens, the artist explores the absurd nature of the animals and drapery found in medieval European paintings and juxtaposes it with the surrender of a woman to a field, that is both giving in to the nature and yet holding unto something. This work exposes the process and tension that takes to give into the spring

Hey there! I'm an Amsterdam-based artist deeply enamored by the subconscious, nature, the countryside, and the absurd. As a sociologist I'm constantly getting drawn to reflect on culture and on questions of tribal belonging. In my work I like to explore the theme of the collective unconscious, the spirit of objects, and the cycle of life.
