About The Artwork

Walking along the middle of the road in my village at night in increasing fog on the way to get provisions, while avoiding the frozen snow footpath, I decided to make some images of the Christmas lights that were diffused in the fog. I tend to hit the shutter of my trusty Ricoh GR II and move the camera body to get light trails. This can be hit and miss but sometimes it captures some magic. This isn't random luck as the images have to be worked on to get the best out of them. After editing out the images that just don't work, I then start making judgements on composition. In this instance the light trails give the illusion of a connection of light in diminishing perspective. This was taken during the Christmas lockdown as more and more people feel disconnected and isolated, compounded with the harsh Winter weather. This image has turned out to be symbolic of these frail connections we still have via technology.

I am an explorer of images, walking around locations with no plan or agenda. Some of my best images have been found by chance. Liverpool in particular has been the gift that keeps on giving with its rich layers revealed in its fascinating historic buildings and streets. I also collect sound recordings and video footage, building a library for possible use in making future short films and also compose music for use commercial media and for my own personal work.
