About The Artwork

The series of pictures entitled "Just a number" consists of three parts, each showing different perspectives of a person on a staircase. Each picture shows the person in different positions while carrying a cardboard box on their head. Numbers and a barcode can be seen on the cardboard, indicating that the person is categorized or identified in some way. The artist's perspective emphasizes the idea of anonymity and reduction to a mere number in an industrialized society that often alienates people in their individuality and humanity. Through the different angles and positions, the artist reflects the complexity of this theme and challenges the viewer to reflect on the meaning of identity and individuality.

My name is Franz Hein, I was born in Ehrstädt, now Sinsheim, in 1965 and spent a lot of time in my youth with my photographer grandfather. I currently live in northern Germany near the Dutch border in the far west. Influenced by my grandfather, I came into contact with photography at a very early age and pursued it as a hobby for a long time, whereby technique and creative development improved with age. Over the years I have photographed many things, but never felt the real satisfaction with my work. As I was self-taught in photography, it was natural to study the works of various artists and art movements in photography. That's how I finally found my passion for not only No, I find myself and my works predominantly in the conceptual black and white photography, which had its heyday in the 60s to the end of the 70s. The often very abstract features of my works reflect in a certain way today's zeitgeist. Some colorful abstract photographs also found their way into my online gallery, but the emphasis lies in the monochrome design with contrasts and the play with light and shadow as well as the reduction to the essential. My ambition is to create few, but unique and well elaborated art photographs instead of many works in series. works in series I would like to share with you.
