About The Artwork

Temporal intervals. Spatial intervals. Perception of time and dimension can sometimes transcend typical notions of reality. Sensations so enduring yet ephemeral like a full moon ascending the horizon or the clank of chain to mast. Wandering harbors, piers and wharfs heightens my sense of time and space. This slice of the world is often tranquil and invites lingering. Boats drift in the water, the tide below the dock gently sways, undulating. Flow, rhythm, measure – salve for the fast-paced life. The photographs in this series offer views of different states of reality - mostly serene; some revealing haunting figures one might see in a lucid dream. The properties of the actual subject, reflections in water, alter rhythmically and symbolize states of consciousness: subliminal, altered, and introspective.

With over two decades as photographer and graphic designer, Robin Ward has developed a distinct method, leveraging perspective as device and recurring inquiry in her varied bodies of work. She persists in photographing pure landscapes, wildlife, architecture and nature abstractions, utilizing a variety of lenses and techniques. She spins composites of her images into atmospheric, alternative landscapes that invite playful curiosity into the flow of time. Passage or portal, her work bends and blends dimensions, intermingling actualities. She layers and positions the transitory and terrestrial in nuanced color, measure and depth. Many of these printed works are digitally embedded with animations, converging her original photos and video with augmented reality. In other current work, she photographs and records the lively rhythm of the ocean’s perpetual motion. Tranquil yet vibrant, soothing yet often turbulent, her aerial seascapes embody a duality of being as luminous waves drift, churn, ebb and flow. Based in Laguna Beach, CA, she uses a drone to capture the fluid tempo of marine life traversing the Pacific Coast. Robin has received multiple awards from International Photography Awards and International Color Awards, among others. She has exhibited in various establishments including Art Intersection, Center for Photographic Art and Monterey Museum of Art.
