I wanted to produce an abstract expressionistic image playing on the name of the rock group Simply Red. Here it is, and I hope that my viewers, particularly those who like this group will smile at the title of this image! I manipulated various shapes and colours to achieve my design, and experimented at length prior to deciding on this version which satisfied me visually. I haven't yet got round to it, but plan to have a copy on my studio wall. The image is a giclee print on Hahnemühle Fine Art Baryta Satin, an archival quality photographic paper of 300 gsm. It is sent out with a Certificate of Authenticity, dated and signed by the artist, Jeff Laurents. It is carefully packaged in a tube system, protected by archive materials in keeping with the standards of Saatchiart.

I studied for my degree in photography at the Polytechnic of Central London and also lectured in Cinema for the British Film Institute. I have specialised in digital image making for many years. My art is mostly abstract images or landscape photographs which I have transformed digitally to resemble paintings rather than straight photographs. I also create cityscapes, images of iconic local scenes which I sell to art galleries and retail outlets in my area. My approach is experimental, and when working on my images I will reject a version that doesn't appeal to my sensibilities, and I will continue to work on an image until I'm happy with the result. Some of the titles of my artwork are deliberately tongue in cheek, as in my images 'A Grave Situation' and 'One of The Beetles', or ironic as in 'Global Warming'. I try to create images that appeal to the viewer's feel for shape, colour and texture and sense of composition, or for strong graphic monochromes, so my work is motivated by aesthetics.
