Million Dollar View - Limited Edition 3 of 9 Print

This limited edition metal print is from a 4 year photo project I was immersed in while living in downtown Los Angeles. It was included in my solo exhibition at Gloria Delson Contemporary Arts Gallery on Spring Street in June 2014. The first two editions of this print sold during that exhibition. The title "Million Dollar View" is often misunderstood in this context. Instead of referring to the expansive sunset view from an expensive downtown Los Angeles high rise, it derives it's name from the Rosslyn or "Million Dollar Hotel" which houses a mixed bag of assisted income SRO's (Single Room Occupancy) and lower than average market rate apartments. The hotel straddles the border of Skid Row and gentrifying DTLA. This print's sister image (Rowan) is a separate shot of the Rowan Lofts that includes Spring Street and the historic KRKD radio tower. They work great together as a Diptych. Shot at the tail end of sunset, the low light and intense colors give this photo a painterly feel. This image is printed on aluminum with a dye transfer process that combines heat and pressure to embed the image into a coated substrate. It is a robust and archival medium that should last well over 100 years. There is a floating frame on the back of the metal print that stiffens the artwork and provides a hanging mechanism.
