Born in New Castle, Kwazulu-Natal in 1977-11-11. Currently living and working in Pretoria. As an artist I find myself aligned with Vladimir Mayaskovski’s view that “Art is not a mirror to reflect the world, but a hammer with which to shape it”. I firmly believe that creativity communicates and surpasses all dimensions, and through keen observation, experience and free thought one is able to break the physical boundaries of preconceived ideas and notions, which limits lateral thinking. I first started to express myself artistically in my early twenties, mostly through drawing, painting and sculpting and have taught myself in the arts. In my late twenties I went through some trials which altered my reality and perspective on life. I have to continuously redefine my role within society and I constantly find myself questioning the norm within the systems that govern the world. These experiences forced me to look at life more objectively which in turn has served as a great source of inspiration for my conceptual work. The meaning of existence, the progression and regression of the human condition and the universe from a macro to a micro scale are topics that dominate my work. My experience, ‘facts’ and observation of nature, philosophy and history using quantum cosmology as thought process, stimulate my conceptual free thinking. I believe in collective wisdom. Like Aristotle said “the whole is more important than the sum of its parts” To conceptualize, create and experience the tangible take effect successfully, this is what I live for.
