About The Artwork

I was interested in Brittany in northwestern France, especially from the megalithic culture I was very much taken. And also from the coastal landscape. Under severe tidal storms and the massive surf over the centuries, some bizarre, peculiar rock formations were created that had particularly appealed to me. The reception in this area is rarely inviting. Who wants to stay here, must not be put off by the first impression. Why humans settled here several thousand years ago in defiance of all adversities seemed a mystery. When I started looking for just these reasons, before the eyes the interplay of partly amorphous, partly crystalline structures, in the ears a swelling and roaring of the wind, I discovered the charm of the contradictory in all its facets. Perhaps it was just these exaggerations, the excessiveness of the forms that made up the magic of this landscape. At first, I was still hesitant to choose a suitable medium. And after several sketchy attempts at feeling the form of expression, I decided to take the photograph. After all, it united those factors that broadened reality in order to convey the wonder of the landscape and the change in the temporal dimension in a concise manner. Time and space, in their indispensable connection to each other, could only be regarded as a unity. The resulting works became the mirror of a geographical as well as mythical approach to this place. What I did not suspect at that time, I would later become aware of, after I had traveled to different places. Encounters of all kinds, whether in the form of landscapes, with people or literature had a great influence on my work. In fact, the love of French culture has been around for some years. Fascinated by the writings of Gaston Bachelard and C.G. Jung, whose world of thought alternated between poetry and philosophy, a world opened up far from the requirements.
