Ouro Preto, considered a World Cultural, Historical and Artistic Heritage by UNESCO, is a colonial city in Serra do Espinhaço, in the eastern part of Brazil. It is known for its baroque architecture, which includes bridges, fountains and squares, and for its steep, winding cobbled streets. The central square of Tiradentes was named after the martyr of Brazilian independence. There are several churches and chapels throughout the city, including the 18th-century Igreja de São Francisco de Assis. In the photo we see the famous Church of São Francisco de Paula, for being the one that stands out in the middle of the mountains. It's behind the bus station, but you can get there easily, from Igreja São José. From there you have a beautiful view of the city. It is the most recent church in the city and on its altar there is an image of Aleijadinho. It is not open for visitors, but there are masses on Sundays at 10 am.
