About The Artwork

This is a photograph of a very singular tree. One day I visited my local old quarry to take pictures. It wasn't a good day for light and I was finding it hard to pick out anything that inspired me. However; suddenly the light hit this little tree leaving everything else in shade. Even the original of this image is strange and beautiful. As it was winter the tree and grass looked burned out, dry and dead; hence the tree was shining white amongst the rocks. I got my camera quick and took photos. The tree is not white here as I have manipulated it and faded out the rocks. The grass when exposed and blurred seemed to turn to fire which I loved as I was talking to another photographer telling them I wish I could set a dead tree on fire without burning a place to bits. I didn't need to as the grass in this image turned to fire for me. The title is from a poem by Nobakov.

Shipping & Returns

I am a painter, photographer and graphic artist living and working on the North East Coast of England. My passions and the things that inspire my work; are my local coastline as we have wonderful beaches and cliffs; which host much wildlife from dolphins to cormorants and gulls. Like many, I am concerned about Climate Change and the natural world and this feeds some of the topics of my work. In regards style, I love high colour and pattern and enjoy solving the problem of marrying all my stylistic loves in single images. I have found that as I am developing as an artist both my painting and photography are becoming more similar in approach.
