In 2001 Laurent La Gamba embarked on the first of his 'pro-cryptic' installations. Using acrylic paint on a protective suit the subject is posed and painted to blend into their urban environment. La Gamba likens his work to animal homochromia and uses the term pro-cryptic, rather than camouflage, to describe his work; taking inspiration from the way in which animals blend into their surroundings. This limited edition C-print is taken from the pro-cryptic installation in a Supermarket series. Photography of La Gamba's pro-cryptic installations were exhibited internationally including at the Juming Museum of Art, Taiwan and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Fort Collins, U.S.A.

Laurent La Gamba is a self-taught French visual artist and photographer. Early paintings, using acrylic paint on large canvases, have been likened to American photorealism. In 2001 he was awarded a Pollock-Krasner Foundation grant and began working on his first camouflage art and pro-cryptic installation. In 2002 he was artist in residence at the La Napoule Art Foundation (Mandelieu, France). It is during this time that his work started to gain international recognition. Between 2002-2006 exhibitions of his camouflage / pro-cryptic art installations: set in supermarkets, airports and other public spaces, were held is USA, Europe, Taiwan, and Canada - series include; “High Gloss”, “Open Fridge”, “Swimming Pools”, “Supermarkets”, “Inside MIR”. This work was followed by a series of photography and video installations entitled Moving Superficiality which combined his personal passion for sports cars with art. Laurent La Gamba’s most recent project is a series of sculptures / installations. Entitled Pandemonium of Versatile Objects this work explores mass production and consumerism and the role they play in formulating memories and identity, through the visual coding of celebratory gift bows.
