Privileged view of an Arcadian (after Capability Brown) edgeland landscape, as seen from a spinney on the edge of the South Downs in Sussex. 'There’s an S shaped disappearing path, a distant view of the sea, all framed by ‘Repoussoir’, the foreground branches that give such pictorial depth. There are elements of ‘Staffage’: the livestock - not not quite a red waistcoat wearing peasant on a donkey, but the horses and the back of an old truck that doubles as a shed. It’s an Edgeland Arcady'.

My practice aims to establish an understanding of how recalled imagined possibilities of childhood embed themselves in a sense-of-place. Of how visual codes and conventions in describing the sense of place, reveal a landscape as a repository of memory. This work goes to the heart of recent debates about ‘true’ and ‘false’ memories, fictional accounts of auto-biography and in the psycho-geographical interpretations of the environment (and in particular the Liminal).
