ABOUT THE ARTWORK
ABOUT «Rush hour – the cyclist», is an elegy depiction of the urban life in Milan. My «Urban Life» art series is a photographic love poem to the city. A series of images coined from my deepest thoughts, emotions, observations, and ideas about the global phenomenon of urbanization. I like the challenge of capturing depictions of the intriguing fleeting moments, shapes, light and tint spanning the everyday to the extraordinary in the crowded metropolitan cities. A narrative conceptual photography open to several interpretations, allowing the viewer to make it their own. Without any digital elaboration, except that of color correction and crop this artwork was captured with a special photographic technique. The process of this technique is very demanding especially on the rush hours in a crowded city and requires long waiting time and a keen eye to catch without staging a precise moment with an intriguing and unique scene that is appropriate for this photographic technique. THE PRODUCTION Limited Edition of 7. Comes with a Certificate of Authenticity (COA), hand signed and numbered by the artist. Pigmented Giclée printed without border on museum grade 100% cotton rag paper 310 gsm. The production is supervised by the artist, to ensure the demanding artist requirements as regards the wealth of detail and the finest nuances of tone. Born and raised in Athens, I took up the camera in the early 1980s and a couple of years later I began my formal training in photography while studying Topography at The National Technical University of Athens (1983-1989). My work is motivated by an existential need to express myself and connect with others, and understand the many and often incompatible sides of the ego, in a journey of self-discovery and self-expression. My intention is to create work that facilitates intimacy with the viewer and encourages empathy. Since my first solo exhibition in 1988, my work has been presented in many group exhibitions and 7 solo shows and I have been awarded international awards and distinctions. I have published 3 photographic albums and 4 Artbooks. Some of my works are in public and private collections. Member of the Chamber of Fine Arts of Greece.
