About The Artwork

In 2016 I had the opportunity to join a group of "busos" (pronounced: bushows) as the first photographer ever, to document their river crossing tradition. During the annual Poklade ("Buso" festivities), on Sunday, a large group of busos (men wearing scary, hand.crafted wooden masks, and sheepskin coats) and women wearing tradition clothes cross the River Danube in wooden rowing boats. Before crossing the river, they have a huge fire on the island, dance, talk, eat and drink. This tradition has a historical heritage, coming from an old legend, which says that this group crossed the river during the night and scared the sleeping Turkish occupiers who left the city, and thus its inhabitants became free again. Giclée Print on Hahnemühle Paper Printed with 5cm border.

Award-winning photographer from Budapest, Hungary, focusing on folklore, cultural heritage and visual storytelling. In love with folklore and cultural heritage as well as the often invisible or unknown life(style) of communities. My cultural heritage-related works have been published numerous times in National Geographic and NatGeo Travel, VICE Media, La Societé and many more online and print media. Currently working on a long-term cultural project in the Carpathian basin region (Central and Eastern Europe). The project focuses on the slowly disappearing traditional rural shepherd lifestyle.
