Svadisthana Chakra, Limited edition of 20 Print

Svadisthana or sacral chakra, water element. Once I had established what I wanted to communicate with this series I could do the planning needed to get the necessary content together.There was the elemental, the symbolic and lotus petals, all needed to give the images their vibrational quality to allow the energy of each centre to shine through the composite. This was a dream for many years, especially when we only had film and no Ps to work with. The background to this one is one of the famous painted doorways in Jaipur City Palace...it has lots of painted lotus petals. Once I had overlaid the real lotus petals I could mask them and create transparent windows to the doorway or portal underneath. Of course water had to feature and that came in the form of the Betwa river cataracts in Orchha that makes another appearance with its mystical cenotaphs on the right side of the image. I’ve given the water some depth and added the chakra animals, one being a makara, a mythical crocodile like creature that embodies the essence of this water chakra energy. I was driving back to Chennai from Mammalipuram when I came across a kind of crocodile only zoo,so I was able to get my substitute makara image, being one of the crocodiles lying in one of the enclosures there. I composited it into the foreground water area of the image making it as real as possible. The brass doors and lotus panels either side of the palace door were blended into the water and I also added the Bhimlat falls near Bundi to the left side of the image that required a whole day trip to get there and back. I was excited to get any images I could use and having looked for good looking waterfalls unsuccessfully on other trips this was an opportunity not to be missed. The clouds were comped in last to hold the image together alongside the rays and symbolic features including the sun,crescent moon and bija mantra, in this case,“Vam”.
