About The Artwork

Lambda print in gallery quality with glossy lamination and 3 cm white border. Printed at an award-winning German photo lab. The microcosm of the Bavarian Alps is full of beauty. Heather flowers in vernal sunlight just before sunset are just one example. If you prefer this artwork in another size and/or mounted under Acrylic Glass - perhaps in addition with an aluminum Dibond backing - please feel free to contact me.

Although born in Canada I've been living in Bavaria most of my life. The landscape of the Bavarian pre-Alps and in particular of the Chiemgau, which is rich in wonderful motifs, has a deep impact on my work. In particular I'm feeling inspired by special lighting conditions - be it light penetrating through tree tops in a dark forest, diffuse light in the early morning or evening hours ... The golden thread that runs through my work is the engagement with what's hidden. My focus is on motifs which in one way or another normally aren't visible and therefore are all the more fascinating. The starting point of my photographic journey were landscapes, in which (by fog or twilight) much remained hidden. Through experiments with motion blur, my passion for impressionistic photography developed. The combination of motif, lighting and intentional movement of the camera (which in my eyes corresponds to the painter's brush stroke) creates atmospherically dense images, which appear painted with the camera. By fascilitating imagination they create imageries, which seem to be settled between reality and fiction - magical sceneries which partly remind us of the illustrations of old fairy tales. The pictures themselves seem to tell stories. While enjoying "painting with the camera", I am also fascinated by the possibilities that arise with the use of the SONY α7R in combination with the SONY MACRO G OSS objective: smallest details of flowers and insects or dew drops on gras and spider webs made visible through macrophotography. Almost all of my shots are produced directly during the shooting. For postprocessing I use Lightroom and sometimes Photoshop. However, in the majority of cases, this finishing process consists only of an improvement in contrast, saturation, clarity and other parameters for image adjustment. If you are interested in another finish of a certain picture or in other pictures showcased on my website, please feel free to contact me. BTW in case you wonder what "blasser schimmer" (name of my account and website) means: it's German and a play of words. Literally it means "pale glimmer", however, it's more often used as idiom in the sense of "foggiest idea".
