About The Artwork

My work presents a powerful black and white photograph that creates a deep intensity through the minimalist representation and the contrast between light and shadow. At the center is a torn cardboard whose rough texture and imperfections are visible. This act of tearing symbolizes a breakthrough, an opening to another level or reality. The central element of the photograph is an eye peering out of the resulting opening. The eye itself could be both the witness and the protagonist of this transformation. The use of black and white intensifies the drama and draws attention to the essential - the intense looking out of the darkness. The play of light and shadow emphasizes the structure of the torn cardboard and at the same time casts powerful contrasts on the eye, which becomes visible in the midst of these tears. The choice of monochrome scheme enhances the emotional depth and lends the image a timeless quality. This work is my artistic interpretation of a metaphorical breakthrough, where an eye acts as a symbol of insight, awareness or a new perspective, captured in the raw beauty of a torn cardboard.

My name is Franz Hein, I was born in Ehrstädt, now Sinsheim, in 1965 and spent a lot of time in my youth with my photographer grandfather. I currently live in northern Germany near the Dutch border in the far west. Influenced by my grandfather, I came into contact with photography at a very early age and pursued it as a hobby for a long time, whereby technique and creative development improved with age. Over the years I have photographed many things, but never felt the real satisfaction with my work. As I was self-taught in photography, it was natural to study the works of various artists and art movements in photography. That's how I finally found my passion for not only No, I find myself and my works predominantly in the conceptual black and white photography, which had its heyday in the 60s to the end of the 70s. The often very abstract features of my works reflect in a certain way today's zeitgeist. Some colorful abstract photographs also found their way into my online gallery, but the emphasis lies in the monochrome design with contrasts and the play with light and shadow as well as the reduction to the essential. My ambition is to create few, but unique and well elaborated art photographs instead of many works in series. works in series I would like to share with you.
